Dr. Stephan Heo, MD, FACC, FSCAI

Stephan Heo
MD, FACC, FSCAI

Dr. Stephan Heo is an interventional cardiologist who specializes in minimally invasive procedures for complex coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and structural heart valve disorders. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology and echocardiography imaging.

Dr. Heo received his cardiovascular and research training at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He then completed advanced fellowship training at Brown University involving high risk and complex coronary artery interventions, endovascular procedures for peripheral vascular disease and structural heart valve disorders.

He has been the principal investigator in numerous research trials involving cutting edge technology for the treatment of coronary artery disease. Dr. Heo’s trials include using the world’s smallest heart pump to maintain blood flow during high-risk coronary artery procedures. He has also been involved in trials using drug coated balloons which is an attractive alternative to stents for both coronary artery disease and prior failed stents.

Dr. Heo performs procedures at the forefront of interventional cardiology. He was the first physician in New England to adopt and have commercial use of the Shockwave (IVL) coronary intravascular lithotripsy system for calcified coronary arteries. The revolutionary new technology can widen calcified narrowed arteries in a safe and reliable way that are usually difficult to treat with current methods.

At Brown University, Dr. Heo trained with pioneers in the field for peripheral vascular disease. He studied early diagnosis and treatment for vascular disease that can prevent disability, save limbs and lives. He uses minimally invasive techniques to treat the most complex vascular disease including critical limb ischemia. Dr Heo also specializes in vein disease or venous insufficiency which causes blood flow backwards and pool in the legs. He has created one of the largest venous thromboembolism (VTE) programs in New England for the treatment for pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). He uses endovascular techniques for removing blood clots in the lungs and legs.

Dr. Heo was voted by his peers as Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2022 and was also featured in New Hampshire magazine. He is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and the American College of Cardiology. He has written for multiple publications and been on national expert panels.
